Don't know about xqc but hasan runs one 60 second ad every hour and at every ad run he tells his viewers they can avoid the ads by subbing or using an ad-block or a vpn. That's way less ads than you would see on an hour of TV so I don't know how that translates to a shit ton of ads.

Yeah, it's actually the other way arround. Small streamers are pretty much forced to play 6 ads (~3 minutes) every hour. Top streamers have to play way less ads, because they bring in more revenue due to their subscriptions and bits.

These streamers are surely doing taxes any % speedruns
There is a reason a lot of them in the US moved to Texas.
0% income tax.

Donations should be for low streamers, that actually need it for new equipment, bills and ya know food. There really should be some sort of cut off on this shit. I'm not sure If I was racking in that much money per month feeling comfortable taking donations from people who are most likely min wage. Gross.

You're right, successful streamers who worked their ass off for years streaming and getting to the top shouldn't make money.

The fuck is this Tall Poppy Syndrome going on in this thread? This thread is mad jelly.

Always baffled me that people are donating 100s and 100s of dollars to streamers that are clearly raking in tons of money. Absolutely absurd.

I enjoy Max's content, but raking in 1,5 million a year on Twitch alone. It's kind of a lot...

Agreed, it's a lot! Fighting games are niche and I just want them to be more popular and do well - Max is one of the very few who genuinely cares and wants to help grow the scene without the drama which I appreciate.

Damn man, seeing those payouts sure is depressing lol

Some are earning more money in 1 month, than others do in their whole lifetime

I mean that post clearly doesn't say they shouldn't make any money, but when your channel is raking in 100K+ a month in sub revenue alone, at some point also accepting donations seems weird.

I know you're just joking but people can tell if a streamer is getting into it just for the money.
I saw other posts worried about connected amazon prime accounts and payment information. I don't know if credit card information is compromised, but the entire site was leaked and I couldn't help but think of the worst case scenario. I apologize if my wording made it sound like credit card info was definitely compromised and caused extra worry.
You may want to edit your post to say Aren't screwed.

I always love it when users on a website exposes themselves as being a genuine piece of shit. Imagine hoping that thousands if not millions of people have their credit card information stolen just because they have it connected to a website you don't like. Fuck off.
Edit: person I replied this to has clarified that they made a type and that they hoped people with connected credit card information are NOT screwed. I've since apologized.

was wondering why Pokimane was so low on the totem poll, but I remembered she had twitch implement a custom donation cap on her channel of $5. Still, 30k a month isn't anything to sneeze at..

I just woke up. Quick question about the leak:

If I already have 2FA enabled, does this leak include my 2FA secret keys and my recovery codes, meaning my account is still vulnerable?

I think the issue is the difference between the words "are" and "aren't"

I don't need to comment on how bad the situation is for data security, that's obviously terrible.

The thing I want to focus on is the payouts. That tweet posted shows that people I watch on YouTube who always act like they are poverty stricken with how much they go on about subscribing and ads etc, reportedly earned $3m a year from twitch.

I'm not surprised and honestly knowing the actual figures just puts me off them even more.

This isn't true in 2021. Every streamer on that list that I've watched has publicly stated they are very very comfortable financially and do not need donations, some have put caps on the maximum amount a user can donate. I honestly don't know where you got the idea that they act like they are poverty stricken.

Even when you do, you get sent a code that is not valid for some reason. I changed passwords but unable to activate 2FA. Good thing I have nothing linked there already.

What? I never said they shouldn't be paid for their hard work. They are getting paid big time even without the donations, sponsors and what other stuff on the side.

They can disable donations if they want. I see no reason why they should have to turn it off. I dont think anyone donates to a big time streamer going "I'm going to help a small time streamer out!"

Sure there's an argument to be made about parasocial relationships but thats not the responsibility of the streamer.

Where did you get 2 factor authentication recovery codes from Twitch? I went in "Security and Privacy" => Security => Two-Factor Authentication => Edit Two-Factor Authentication and cannot find any mention of it.

It only shows SMS as a backup option.

You have to opt-in, otherwise there is a liability where the user might sue back for sending text messages without their consent. I know that I had this discussion in the past when I was at work somewhere else when mentioning about forcing 2FA enabled during user registration.
Yeah but if I were to use Device 2FA (such as with an app authenticator) I'd not get text messages at all. Which is what I want.

For those unfamiliar with the platform, the ammount paid out by twitch isn't *ALL* the streamers revenue (usually). Oftentimes they will run a seperate patreon/donation page that is not a part of twitch's payments meaning they oftentimes would make more than what is listed in the master list. So if your wondering how people can survive off twitch while making what seems to be well under minimum wage, that's how.

Zerator (french streamer, 44th on the list) acknowledged it on this thread:

That was interesting, thanks for sharing. I think as much as streamers like to present themselves as a 'one man show' this is a useful reminder that they are more like a business. Some play that bigger or smaller than others, but definitely have more appreciation for those who support those who chip into the channel and invest in their community through events or trying out new ventures.

I hope something that comes out of this though is bigger streamers phase out having open donations and encouraging big money that goes just to them. Charity drives and merch are cool but if someone's big enough the pure ad revenue puts them way up the high earning brackets, having donation system with no cap just doesn't feel right to me.

Oh hmmm, I had the impression that it sends you a batch of recovery codes when you enable 2FA. Sorry, it's been 2 years since I signed up for 2FA.

But still, my concern is, are our 2FA secret keys leaked as well in this leak?

I'm not saying every streamer acts that way but the insentive is always there.

You have visual and audio overlays to help promote tipping/subbing/promoting comments which is only presented to help with encouraging people to do so.

You can say that streamers say they are comfortable but the fact is they are still accepting tips etc and in all likelihood don't need to. Hell, I know of one example of a streamer who had a fan who had spent over $150k on donating subs to people over a year period. This shit isn't uncommon for bigger streamers.

It's all a cult of personality that encourages self destructive behaviours from the audience.

Ultimately the argument will be "people are allowed to be successful" and that is true but the levels of success successful content creators have clashes for me with the amount of effort that they put into continuing that success. Many of these top streamers could retire now but instead continue to rake in millions all while chastising any sort of criticism with "do you know how hard we work? We can't take breaks otherwise we lose fans and money".
